National Zoo

Today was a gorgeous day weather-wise and I spent most of the day at the National Zoo in DC.  Chessie (my sister-in-law) had to take some pictures for her photography class and I happily agreed to take her.  I love love love the National Zoo and hadn't been in a couple of years.  Funny thing is I get to go on Friday with my students for a field trip!  Twice in one week!  Anyways, we had a lot of fun and between the two of us, took almost 700 pictures in 4 hours!  She took a lot more then me though and her's are way better...she has a photographer's eye.  Here are some of the pictures I took!

The fishing cat would not look at us at all.

Chessie and I both decided that we want a pet otter.  They were so adorable!  These otters are the Asian Small-Clawed Otters.

The names of the otters.  We thought it was funny that 1) their sponsor is Whole Foods Market and 2) that all of them were named after foods except Kevin.

Duck family!

This rhea was very friendly.  It came right up to the fence and was giving us the stink eye.

Scarlet Ibis

The stork

More of the Asian elephant.

We think this was a baby gorilla because it was much smaller than the other two.

One of the orangutans was chilling on top of a tower in their enclosure.

The two lions started fighting at one point...it was cool to hear them roar!

"I like to move it move it, I like to move it move it."

The sea lions were very entertaining.  They just kept swimming back and forth, back and forth in front of the window.

This seal loved to swim upside down.

We thought this dedication was really funny.

Not our kid...he wouldn't move out of the Zoo sign so that I could get a clear shot!

Some pretty buildings we passed by on our walk to the zoo.

Happy Saturday!
