Wedding #2

This past weekend, Ben and I attended Wedding #2 of the fall season, which happened to be Ben's college roommate, Matt's wedding.  Matt and Kim have been dating for around 9 years (I think) and they tied the knot at the beautiful Rockwood Manor which is in Potomac, Maryland.  The weather held off to have the ceremony outside and the party was inside.  We had a ton of fun and it was great to see all of Ben's college friends since many of them we haven't seen in awhile.  And, this was the first wedding Ben was in (besides his own of course)!  Here are the pics.  A friend took one of Ben and I together so once I get that from her I will post that one too.  As always, enjoy!

Update/Wedding #1

Hi all,

You've probably noticed that there hasn't been a post in a few weeks.  That is because Ben and I have been EXTREMELY busy!!!  Ben is working of course and he started working on his Master's at the end of August.  He is currently taking one class once a week.

As you know, I am student teaching!!  The internship is going great and I love my class (though they do have a chatter problem!)!!  However, I had NO idea how busy I would be!  I am in the school Wednesday-Friday and I have two classes on Monday, two on Tuesday and occasionally two classes on Thursday.  That all equals a lot of work!!!  I just keep telling myself that it will all be over this time next year.

On September 10, 2011 (9-10-11....get it??) Ben and I attended the wedding of Bekah Deel to Mike Kane.  Bekah is the sister of my best friend, Hannah Beach, (the matron of honor at my wedding).  The wedding was outside on the water at Hannah and Bekah's parents house.  The weather was gorgeous!  God was really looking out for their wedding because it rained the week of the wedding and it rained the day after the wedding!  The ceremony was beautiful and the reception was lots of fun.  We enjoyed dancing, ice cream from the Scottish Highland Creamery, Fischer's Popcorn, cupcakes, a DJ, a band, some of the nicest porta-potties I have ever been in, and a ton of other fun things.  Below are some pictures from the wedding.

Tomorrow is wedding #2, Ben's roommate from college Matt and Kim.  Stay tuned for pictures!!!

Just some updates

So I realized this morning that I never updated on how Hurricane Irene affected us.  We made it through the storm really well.  Lights flickered a few times and that was about it.  The next morning, there were a bunch of leaves, twigs, and a shingle all over the apartment grounds.  Other than that, you would've never known Irene came through.  We were very lucky.  Ben's parents lost power for 3 and a half days and my family was all fine on the Eastern Shore.  Our OC condo made it through without a scratch!  All in all, us and our families were very lucky to make it through the hurricane without any major problems.

I did start school this past week!  We missed the first day because of the hurricane...many schools did not have power.  I love my 2nd graders!  I even taught my first lesson on Thursday.  It was on cooperation which is important, but not the most thrilling lesson to teach.  I also taught it at the end of the day so their attention spans were not as long as they usually are.  But we got through it and I got through my first lesson!

My kids think my name, Mrs. Alvarez, is too hard to say so many of them call me Mrs. A.  I've also gotten my first two pieces of artwork from students!  I posted a picture of them a few days ago.  They are great kids and I'm looking forward to spending the year with them!
